Tomorrow Never Knows: This is based on the 808 album version, not the original. The drum programming was extremely difficult. No synthesizers were used other than the Boss DR drum machine.

Early Acoustic - Ithaca to Santa Cruz - 1982-1988

The first song I ever wrote, on a hillside in Ithaca, NY, Summer 1982. Sigh....

http://www.billsadler.org/Aint_No Need_To_Worry.mp3

While hiking in Yosemite I became enthralled with a song by REM, and this is what came out later.

http://www.billsadler.org/Beyond_the_Walls.mp3

A song I wrote to get a girl to like me. It didn't work, of course. Too sensitive.

http://www.billsadler.org/Hey_Hey_My_My.mp3

A song I wrote for a girl, Maureen, whom I liked, then changed the name to Julia, her friend, whom I also liked. I enjoyed both, got neither. Sigh....

http://www.billsadler.org/Julia.mp3

A song I wrote while watching dry lightning over Mono Lake, 1987, on my way to Yosemite. Quite a trip, from what I remember, which is most of it.

http://www.billsadler.org/Let_Me_In.mp3

A song I wrote about not being sure about what I was doing, either with the song or with my life at the time. Still searching, but for other "things".

http://www.billsadler.org/Searching.mp3

Yes, she was so shy, and a tease, and I still occasionally wonder what she is up to after all these years. She was a real beauty and probably still is.

http://www.billsadler.org/Shes_So_Shy.mp3

A song I wrote while taking a songwriting class at Cabrillo College, Aptos, CA, Spring of 1988, or so. It is sort of based on some dream imagery.

http://www.billsadler.org/Stronger_Than_Dark.mp3

This song is me playing with my influences. The title is a dead giveaway, and so is the falsetto.

http://www.billsadler.org/Sunburst_Strut.mp3

So, again the shy girl got a song, this one I actually played for her. Her comment: "You sound really sincere." Arrrrrgh, dummy, it was about you. She's gone, but I still sing the song from time to time. I like the poetry of it and its simplicity.

http://www.billsadler.org/To_Maryanne.mp3

My favorite from this series, "Waiting" has seen numerous incarnations. I wrote it during a free time in 1985 on a deck under redwood trees in Bonny Doon, north of Santa Cruz. One of the first songs where I really got to sing.

Vallejo 4

http://www.billsadler.org/bent_rent_and_torn.mp3

Sometimes we become obsessed with a desirable other. We get that person under our skin. We get to the point where existence without that person is next to impossible. We get self-destructive, or we express ourselves in song. This is both.

http://www.billsadler.org/breakin_up_breakin_down.mp3

Sometimes we fall in love. Sometimes we fall out of love. Sometimes we just fall.

http://www.billsadler.org/lucky_13.mp3

This is a meditation on fame and some of its perks. Jerry Lee Lewis meets Mick Jagger.

http://www.billsadler.org/reverie.mp3

This is a meditation on the subject of the first song above. Her name is coded into the song lyrics. Can you guess what her name is?

http://www.billsadler.org/sun_burst_strut.mp3

I just love Hot Tuna. This song sounds nothing like that band. It is a love song.

http://www.billsadler.org/the_ku_within_you.mp3

Haiku is one of my favorite poetic forms. I composed this set of 14 haikus one day while living at 308 Vallejo St. in Petaluma, California. Then I set the poems to music. Ku to you!

Vallejo 3

http://www.billsadler.org/angel_devin_i_love_you.mp3

This is, in many ways, the ultimate love song for someone that I was obsessed with at the time. Fortunately, she was a good sport and liked the song, but not me. lol!

http://www.billsadler.org/funk_ya.mp3

This song was written after watching the film adaptation of Somerset Maughm's "Of Human Bondage," about a hapless chap who gets hooked up with the wrong lady. He survives and thrives, she does not. Satire is a powerful weapon against despair.

http://www.billsadler.org/its_a_party.mp3

In the late spring of 1993, while trying to recover from my mother's passing, I wrote and produced this piece. It was recorded on a 4-track, as were most of the pieces on this website, with 16 sound sources, achieved by careful use of bouncing and adding to the mix. The lyrics were written to cheer myself up and to make fun of my friends recreational preferences, not mine.

http://www.billsadler.org/taking_out_the_garbage.mp3

Ecology anyone? I mean, really, isn't it time we all took responsibility for our home?

http://www.billsadler.org/shadows_of_the_rain.mp3

According to some experienced persons, this is my most successful "pop song." I wrote it in Santa Cruz in the mid-1980's. Can you hear my references? Karl Cordoza plays bass.

http://www.billsadler.org/to_blitzed_to_bop.mp3

I do not advocate excess, and this piece expresses that conviction. It is not autobiographical. Thanks to Jimi Hendrix for the "broom" reference.

Vallejo 2

These pieces are a collection of songs that came out of sonic experiments on my 4-track i 1993-1994. My mom had recently passed on and I had a little time to record and try out new sound techiques. These songs are a result of all the cool music I'd heard since I really started paying attention to the details of music production. My friend KC (Karl Cordoza) accompaies me on bass on the songs with the better bass playing techique. Thanks for listening and donate a bit if you can, enjoy.

http://www.billsadler.org/aluminum.mp3

"Aluminum" was an experiment in not maintaining a consistent theme; all atifice. It rocks!

http://www.billsadler.org/the_load.mp3

"The Load" is part of a series of pieces that feature protagonists who are facing really hard times. Too many people are in this condition.

http://www.billsadler.org/dead_beat_blues.mp3

"Dead Beat Blues" continues the saga of a lost part of our society.

http://www.billsadler.org/fantasy_girl.mp3

Psychology 101: Eros Fantasticus Femalia.

http://www.billsadler.org/fly_away.mp3

Deep reggae is hard to find these days. The loss of one's mother is not.

http://www.billsadler.org/smoke_ring.mp3

Too many people judge what they don't understand. One needn't partake to get it. I choose the second option.

http://www.billsadler.org/warrior_song.mp3

Native American music has inspired a lot of my creativity. Here is something to offer back. Thanks.

http://www.billsadler.org/tech_nickle_knockout.mp3

Lots of inspirations, original creations, similar results, mosaic of music, some collaboration, mixed reaction, celebration

Vallejo 1

These songs were all recorded at 308 Vallejo Street in Petaluma, most during the early 1990's. Some had been composed during the early 80's, mostly acoustic on these collections. This bit isn't necessarily acoustic. Enjoy the music and please click on the "donate" button if you like it. Thanks.

http://www.billsadler.org/Horizons.mp3

The first multi-track that I did wasn't really what I intended, so I reached for the horizons and I got hold of a chunk of the prevailing spirit of the times. This is the first vocal song that I recorded with the Mesa Boogie amp. I apologize for any excess.

http://www.billsadler.org/want_it.mp3

Addiction is a mean traitorous vampire of the soul. Desire is the root of all emotional pain, sort of. (Especially for that which you can not have : ...(

http://www.billsadler.org/im_on_a_train.mp3

Pat Langst (bass) and I collaborated on 2 rhythm sections. This is one of them.

http://www.billsadler.org/fare_you_well.mp3

A good bye song for a friend who went to Europe in 1985. Hi Julia (UCSC),,,

http://www.billsadler.org/stupid_people.mp3

I'm from New York. This was written post 09/11/01. Lou Reed was an inspiration. Hey hey, yeah yeah!

http://www.billsadler.org/waiting_for_danika.mp3

One of my "best" songs, ever. Inspired by a would-be tenant who did become one later. Big mistake. Life lesson.

http://www.billsadler.org/illrememberyou.mp3

My mom died in 1992 of cancer, rather suddenly. She got to hear some music I made and was touched by it. That touched me. This is for her and all the loved ones I've lost. Thank you, Mom.

L Dopa and other strange tales

http://www.billsadler.org/funky_faultline.mp3

"Funky Faultline" is the first in a trilogy of pieces based on the fictional career of a musician who went by the pseudonym of "El Dopa." The trilogy was inspired by creative work with the late Mike Z, who also programmed the drum beats and played synth bass on this first piece. All other parts were played and sung/rapped by me.

http://www.billsadler.org/another_one.mp3

"Another One" is the second piece of the El Dopa trilogy and chronicles his growing dissatisfaction with the corporate music business. Mike Z also programmed beats on the piece. All other parts are by me.

http://www.billsadler.org/hall_of_fame.mp3

"Hall of Fame" is the final piece of the trilogy and describes the character's break from corporate entertainment. My friend Karl Cordoza (who appears on many of my tunes) plays the bass. I did the rest. The basic riff was inspired by Jimi Hendrix's "Foxy Lady" and my lame sequence programming skills.

http://www.billsadler.org/soulfusion.mp3

"Soul Fusion" is my first truly rapped piece. Karl Kordoza (KC) plays bass, and Kelly Wilson sings harmony. Another fictional story of suburban life in the 1990's.

http://www.billsadler.org/insecurity.mp3

"Insecurity" is a odd piece that has a hook that still won't leave me alone. Done alone at 308 Vallejo Street, Petaluma, CA, as were most of the other pieces posted here in mid 2006.

http://www.billsadler.org/the_beast.mp3

"The Beast" was influenced by Jack Nicholson's characters in "The Witches of Eastwick" and "Wolf." David Bowie's touch is omnipresent.

http://www.billsadler.org/crook_lady_cat_fool.mp3

A silly song with a moral and a collection of wierd characters.

http://www.billsadler.org/to_be_a_rasta.mp3

Pretty much sums up the non Jamaica born, non island set. No blame. Perseverance furthers.

http://www.billsadler.org/roadtrip.mp3

I like rabbits. Inspired by a cross country trip in a 20 foot moving truck just before Christmas 1993. Some parts are fictional and added to provide characater.
